The German men's tennis team must continue to wait for the first semi-final appearance in the Davis Cup for twelve years. The team boss Michael Kohlmann lost on Friday evening at the new final in Madrid against Great Britain and retired in the quarterfinals.

The defeat against the British was already determined after the two individual. First Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated Kyle Edmund 3: 6, 5: 7. Then Jan-Lennard Struff had to defeat Daniel Evans 6: 7 (6: 8), 6: 3, 6: 7 (2: 7). The double was not played anymore.

DTB team can "always play a role"

"Now, of course, once the disappointment prevails," said team boss Kohlmann. "Unlike in the group matches, things in the crucial situations did not go in our favor this time." Nevertheless, he was satisfied with the appearance. "We have shown again that, no matter what constellation we are in, we can always play a role."

After the two victories in the group matches against Argentina and Chile, the German team went with confidence into the duel with the British, who renounced their star Andy Murray.

While the parallel between Argentina and hosts Spain on center court took place in full ranks, the backdrop in Stadium 2 was comparatively small. The hall was only half full. The new Davis Cup format had recently caused criticism also because of the nocturnal games.
