The brutal video game classic Mortal Kombat flickers again on the big screens: A new adaptation for the cinemas is already underway. The first photos from the film set have even been shared recently. Here's what we already know about the upcoming Mortal Kombat film. Already in the 90s there were two film adaptations of the fighting classic Mortal Kombat. Warner Bros. and New Line are now trying with a new reboot that it should be pretty nice. In the USA, the film is said to have a hard R-rating, which in this country is comparable to a release from the age of 18. Even the fatalities known from the game are said to play a role in the upcoming blockbuster.
The whole thing is staged by director Simon McQuoid and the producers James Wan (Aquaman) and Bennett Walsh (Kill Bill). In order to make the action cracker as realistic as possible, several martial artists are at the start in the cast. These include Joe Taslim (The Raid) as Sub-Zero and Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Liu Kang. Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano are also there. The two Japanese actors are among the biggest stars in their home country.
The adaptation is being produced in Adelaide, Australia. The project has been in progress for a while. The responsible studio New Line Cinema still seems to be working on making the cinema adaptation as perfect as possible. So far, hardly anything is known about the plot. Actor Lewis Tan is said to take the lead. Who it is remains a secret.
