In view of a strike in local transport, an apparently ambitious 13-year-old Rostocker, according to investigators, had already started walking to school in the middle of the night. At around 2.30 a.m., the concerned mother reported the child as missing, the police said.
Accordingly, the boy had left the news on his desk that he was on his way to school. "The school bag was no longer in his child's room, and the boy is very fond of going to school," the police said. The 13-year-old knew about the strike, and officials said that he initiated search measures immediately, but initially did not find the boy. Only around 7 a.m. did a school secretary report that the 13-year-old was at school. He had apparently walked almost ten kilometers from the Toitenwinkel district all over the city.
